CONCORD
PVE Solo Play Design
As part of a small but versatile team of 4 designers I had many responsibilities.
Brainstorming, paper design, formal pitching of ideas and scope.
Creating and presenting functional prototypes, running internal and external focused and teamwide playtests. (Unreal 5)
Direction and planning with partner teams and production.
Polish, bug creation fixing, DLC creation.
TIME TRIALS
CONCORD’s Time Trials were a solo play mode where you can perfect character movement, abilities, and gunplay while attempting to get the highest rank on worldwide leaderboards.
Time trials were each designed to be a quick and fun solo experience to get to know and master the many CONCORD characters. Each trial's path, pace, main and bonus objectives, environmental obstacles and interactables are unique to each character.
Each trial encourages full use of the character's abilities, main and alt weapons, close and long range engagement distances, movement capabilities. Essential skills you need to understand for PVP but in a place that allows for self directed growth and challenge.
Implementing the Time Trials with little to no impact on PVP production took a lot of creative problem solving and was a big accomplishment. Despite the challenges and lack of other PVE modes like solo/Co-op combat missions vs A.I. characters, the PVE was well received, and I enjoyed watching the engagement and competitive spirit of the people who got to try the Time Trials.
